Michigan USATF Measurer Information
Submitting your application
When to send:
Please send in your application by the Saturday a week before your race. I do most of my certification work on weekends, so if you send me your application the week of your race I can't guarantee it will be complete by race day.
Although it is recommended to send the certification map prior to the race date, it is not required in order to make the effective date of the certification be before the race date. The important thing is to get the data to me early. The map can come later.
In most cases the certification map will appear on the USATF website the same day that I approve it.
What to send:
If you complete the application and map electronically, please email those to me. There are electronic versions of the applications that you can fill in on your computer at Measurer Tools
If you complete the application and/or the map by hand, you will need to scan those documents in and email them to me.
If you use Excel to record your measurement data, please send that Excel file rather than creating a PDF version of it.
As a last resort, you can mail your hand-written application to me. But you will eventually need to transition away from that and find a way to scan your documents in so you can email them to me.
Where to send:
Email your application to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Mailing address: 323 Griggs Street, Rochester, MI, 48307
Payment is expected in advance:
Please send your payment to me when you send your application.
$30 per course
$20 per course (simple course adjustment)
$10 per course (race name change only)
$0 per course (calibration courses)
The preferred method of payment is by PayPal (www.paypal.com) to email@example.com. Please choose the “Friends and Family” option when you send your payment so no fee is removed by PayPal. It's very easy to set up a PayPal account and to add money to it with a credit card.
Other methods of electronic payment are okay. Just let me know ahead of time what you want to use and I will set up an account for myself.
Paper checks are also acceptable, but you will need to mail them early to get the review process started.
Because I process the certifications electronically you will now be allowed to include some limited COLOR in your maps.
You CANNOT include photographs or satellite imagery.
It's best to contact me ahead of time to let me know what type of color you plan to include so I can let you know if it is permitted.
Mile mark descriptions:
For longer races, Half Marathon and longer, you can include mile mark descriptions on a separate page.
Please do not include certification info on your maps:
I will add the certification #, effective dates, and correct USATF logo to the map before submitting to USATF.
If you have a MapMyRun or Google Earth map of your course, that would be great if you could send me that along with your certification map. It's not required though.
